Struggling to take the next step on your career path? Finding it hard to prove to employers you have
what it takes? Is your lack of professional level experience holding you back? This programme can
help you gain the vital experience necessary and equip you with the practical employability skills
needed to manage your own career.
The Internship Graduate Certificate (IGC) is a highly distinctive programme starting with a 4-week
intensive Career Management Module at Dundee. This is followed by one of 2 routes:
1. IGC China: 5 month internship in China where you’ll live in shared accommodation and have
access to in-country support and advice.
2. IGC Scotland: 6 month internship with a Scottish organisation with call-back days to University for
on-going support.
The programme consists of two credit-bearing modules:
Module 1: Preparation and Planning (20 credits)
Over 4 weeks, you’ll enhance your self-awareness, career management skills and understanding of the
world of work – preparing you for your internship. Through highly interactive classes, you’ll learn about
project management, team working, commercial awareness, networking, presentation skills and more.
Module 2: Internship and Development (40 credits)
Through the graduate-level internship and further developmental learning you’ll be equipped with
the career planning skills you need to search for your next job and to manage your own career.
Internship Placement:
Prior to the beginning of the programme, you will be carefully matched to an internship opportunity
to suit you. On the Scotland pathway, internships may be anywhere in Scotland. On the China
pathway, internships are in Zhu Hai, China.

The University of Edinburgh School of Health in Social Science are recruiting a Research Assistant to work on a portfolio of interrelated health policy projects with cross-cutting themes including:

 community engagement particularly with the youth and / or marginalised communities

 innovative / arts-based methods and / or social movements

 co-production and asset-based approaches

 tobacco control including prevention, education and harm reduction

 health service improvement

As part of time-limited projects supported by funders including the NHS, the job offers the post-holder a unique opportunity to work on an innovative stream of research bridging top-down and bottom-up approaches to policy and practice. The candidate will have and further develop a degree of expertise within applied health policy and advance skills in:

 data collection and management

 literature searching and reviewing

 the development of theoretical, conceptual and methodological frameworks to be tested in organisational settings and communities

 qualitative data analysis using NVivo

The projects are working to clear deadlines and the post-holder is required to be highly organised and efficient in managing their workload to ensure key tasks are delivered on time. Creativity and a dynamic approach to engaging with the projects and proposing pioneering ideas is key.

The final products will be prepared for publication and further fundable research. The post-holder will have access to regular supervision.

The post will be based within Counselling and Psychotherapy, School of Health in Social Science. The post is for a period of 6 months, part time (17.5hrs per week) , to commence 1st October 2015 (ending 31st March 2016) The role will be grade UE06 and pay a gross pro rata salary of approx. £6,568.50 (i.e. before deductions for tax, national insurance and superannuation; subject to pay rises when a pay agreement is reached).
